“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once the child grows up.”
Pablo Picasso

The Arts, one of the four pillars at Lauremont School, serves to encourage and nurture each students innate creativity while also broadening their arts experiences. It is widely recognized that being a creative person is a highly sought after skill in the 21st century. Being able to think creatively is not only linked to stronger critical thinking skills but to problem solving skills as well. It is the goal of Lauremont School to provide a wide variety of creative opportunities in order to help students develop these traits.

The completion of the new Performing Arts Centre at the Lower School brings the Arts to a whole new level. This is the space where students will play a variety of musical instruments as a class or in a band and sing as a member of a choir. Students will take on different roles and characters to perform in plays, while also expressing themselves through movement and dance. Learning to debate with confidence, recite poetry with emotion, deliver persuasive speeches and introduce visiting presenters are just a few more ways that the Performing Arts Centre will be utilized to the benefit of our students and the larger community.

Lower Elementary Winter Celebration #2

The final week before the winter break brought excitement in the air as students and teachers alike rehearsed for the Lower and Upper Elementary Winter Celebrations on December 16th and 17th. If you were fortunate enough to get a highly sought after seat, you heard some well known holiday tunes as well as a few more traditional, classical favorites. You may also have met an elf or two along the way! One thing was guaranteed: the students made you smile, laugh and marvel at their confidence and joyful expectation as they performed for you in our new, creative space.

Upper Elementary Winter Celebration #2

Last term, students from Children’s House also made their stage debut in their Winter Celebration for parents. The joy and enthusiasm that our young students exuded was contagious. Singing with actions required them to memorize lyrics as well as choreography. They learned that practice doesn’t always make perfection, but it certainly builds stronger performances and develops valuable life-skills. Patience, self-control and focused attention were some of these skills that were challenged and strengthened throughout the rehearsal process.

The new Performing Arts Centre demonstrates the completion of a vision. What was a creative idea born from the Leadership Team, was supported by the Board of Directors and made possible through the generous donations of our families. There is no doubt that our current students and families are grateful, but our future Lauremont students and families will also benefit from this outstanding performance space for years to come.
