Grades 11-12
The Final Stretch
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) at Lauremont School marks the final two years of high school in Grades 11 and 12. The DP is a rigourous pre-university course of study that aims to encourage students to be knowledgeable, inquiring, caring, globally minded, and lifelong learners.
Reflective Learning
The DP promotes reflective learning as students ponder the nature, frameworks and methodologies of their subjects.
Personalized Experience
Students are able to customize their program according to their strengths, interests and passions.
University Preparation
The DP not only prepares graduates for the rigour of post-secondary life, but also allows students to earn university credits before they begin that journey.
It is widely known as a program that has quite rigorous academic standards, but at the same time it is preparing students in a way that gets them to understand who they are in relation to the communities around them and of communities of which they are a part.

DP Course Offerings
DP Core
The DP Core aims to broaden a student’s educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.
Theory of Knowledge (TOK): Students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know. It aims to make students aware of the interpretative nature of knowledge and reflect critically on diverse ways of knowing. Students are assessed through an exhibition and an essay.
The Extended Essay: An independent, self-directed piece of research, culminating in a 4,000-word essay. This activity helps promote academic research and writing skills, intellectual exploration, while engaging in personal research around a topic of student choice.
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): Students undertake and engage in activities related to each of the three strands. Creativity involves the arts and other experiences that include creative thinking; Activity focuses on physical activities that contribute to a healthy lifestyle; and Service highlights voluntary work in the local or global community that benefits others. CAS enables students to use their academic knowledge to foster citizenship skills in today’s world and put our ideals into action.
Six Subject Groups
Students take 6 subjects, typically one from each of the following subject groups: studies in language and literature; language acquisition; individuals and societies; sciences; mathematics; and the arts.
Each of the courses are offered at standard level and higher level, and present an opportunity for students to expand their knowledge. Higher level courses have an enriched curriculum that covers some material that would be taught in a first-year university course.
