Our Pillars

Athletics at Lauremont School

At Lauremont School, we believe that physical education and athletic participation are crucial components of a comprehensive education. Athletics foster physical health, teamwork, leadership skills, and discipline. Engaging in sports and physical activities not only enhances students’ physical well-being but also promotes mental resilience and social skills. Our comprehensive Athletics program, spanning from the Toddler level to Upper School, is designed to cultivate these attributes, preparing students for a lifetime of healthy habits and active living.

Toddler

In our Toddler program, our youngest students are given ample opportunities to explore and develop their physical abilities. The classrooms, designed for children aged 18 months to 3 years, along with the fully equipped Gross Motor Room and outdoor playgrounds, provide an environment that encourages movement driven by curiosity. These well-designed spaces are essential for toddlers to explore fine and gross motor activities, crucial for their overall development.

The freedom to move and explore helps in developing coordination, strength, and spatial awareness from a young age. The Toddler program’s emphasis on physical movement lays a strong foundation for healthy physical development, instilling a love for active play that continues as they progress through the school.

Children’s House

In the Children’s House program, physical activity is integral to the students’ daily routine. Children have various opportunities to develop their gross motor skills through outdoor play on our well-equipped playgrounds, walks through the local ravine, and physical education classes led by specialist teachers.

The spacious classrooms in the Children’s House program allow for free movement, promoting activities that strengthen large motor skills. Students engage in exercises that develop balance, agility, and spatial awareness. Physical Education classes introduce children to structured physical activities, developing an understanding of the importance of regular exercise and healthy habits.

Elementary

The Elementary program at Lauremont School focuses on developing foundational athletic skills, promoting collaboration, and building a strong sense of teamwork. Physical education classes emphasize the development of essential skills, such as spatial awareness, balancing, throwing, and catching. Students are introduced to the rules and expectations of various sports, preparing them for more advanced athletic activities.

Collaboration and team-building are core components of the Elementary Athletics curriculum. The children participate in activities that require them to work together, fostering a sense of mutual respect. The progression from basic skill-building to practical application in sports contexts helps students understand the value of teamwork and collective effort.

Health and nutrition concepts are also integrated into the physical education curriculum, educating students about the importance of maintaining a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Inclusivity and awareness are emphasized, ensuring that all students feel valued and supported in their physical education journey. By fostering a positive and inclusive environment, the Elementary program helps students develop a lifelong love for physical activity and healthy living.

Upper School

At the Upper School level, the Athletics program at Lauremont School becomes more structured and competitive, incorporating physical education, intramural sports, and participation in the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA). Physical education is a compulsory credit until Grade 10, with an emphasis on skill progression across a wide range of sports, including basketball, volleyball, skating, badminton, and field hockey.

Students have the opportunity to participate in intramural sports and activities throughout the year, promoting friendly competition and school spirit. Additionally, the Upper School offers a competitive sports program where students can join teams and compete in various inter-school tournaments and events. This comprehensive approach ensures that 100% of Upper School students are active in some organized activity during the academic year.

Through participation in sports and physical activities, Upper School students at Lauremont develop a sense of discipline, commitment, and teamwork. The program’s focus on development ensures that students are well-prepared for the demands of higher education and future careers, equipped with the skills and values needed to lead active and healthy lives.
