Curriculum Framework
Learner Profile: The programme promotes the education of the whole person through the Learner Profile. Lauremont School believes that a person is truly internationally-minded when they display all ten characteristics of the Learner Profile: thinkers, knowledgeable, reflective, open-minded, balanced, communicators, principled, inquirers, caring and risk-takers.
Approaches to Learning Skills (ATLs): Learning skills that directly relate to student progress and student success. These are responsibility, organization, independent work, collaboration, initiative, self-regulation.
Inquiry Learning: Each programme unit begins with a statement of inquiry that engages students with factual, conceptual and debatable questions.
Global Context: The programme encourages students to explore connections between subject areas and the real world through global contexts and inquire into what it means to be internationally-minded.
Key Concepts: BIG IDEAS that engage students in higher order thinking, helping them to connect facts and topics with complex conceptual understanding. Related concepts promote deep learning and are grounded in specific disciplines.
Service as Action: Students take action when they apply what they are learning in the classroom to the outside world. IB learners are committed to service and make a positive difference to the lives of others and the environment.
The Personal Project
The Personal Project is the capstone project of the Middle Years Programme. Students in Grade 10 have the opportunity to participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global context, focusing on an area of their own interest. The project helps them dive deep and expand their knowledge, consolidate their learning, and further polish their skills for future learning.Â
The entire project journey provides students with the experience of thinking about, exploring and materializing a long-term project. Students learn to identify and discover their knowledge, manage their time and resources, develop a plan, make decisions and solve problems to lead to their desired outcome. This journey builds a foundation for taking on real-world responsibilities.
It serves as an excellent introduction to the IB philosophy, which emphasizes a hollistic approach to education, fostering not only academic skill but also personal development.
