Assistant Head, Elementary

Overview
Reporting to the Head of Elementary, the Assistant Head, Elementary, is part of the Lower School Internal Leadership Team and is responsible for maintaining congruence between the school’s mission statement and all academic activities, and for helping to maintain a positive and mission-appropriate environment for all members of the Elementary community. The Assistant Head, Elementary, will hold specific responsibility for Student Life.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Works with the Head of Elementary to ensure that at all times the school’s curriculum and program provides a safe, caring and supportive learning environment for students, teachers and all other members of the Lauremont School community.
- Works collegially within the Leadership Team to support and advance the school’s vision, mission and philosophy; supports the school’s curricular and philosophical commitments as an 18-month to Grade 12 Montessori and IB World School.
- Helps foster a culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, exercise leadership and strive for academic excellence.
- Leads, coordinates and organizes student life activities, such as the Nest program, assemblies, athletics, and field trips.
- Collaborates with and guides the Student Support Team, ensuring coordinated and proactive support for diverse learning and social-emotional needs.
- Supports and manages student behaviour and discipline using progressive, age-appropriate approaches.
- Supports the Head of Elementary in strategic planning and implementing new initiatives.
- Supports the Head of Elementary in creating the timetable for the academic year.
# 1 – Responsibilities – Leadership
- Collaborates with the Head of Elementary to formulate and implement school policy and procedures.
- Works with teachers, students and parents to create a joyful, dynamic, engaging and outstanding learning and social experience.
- Fosters an environment that is inviting, inclusive, respectful and supportive.
- Develops and maintains programs that foster academic growth, social-emotional development, leadership and character education.
- Contributes ideas and expertise to planning and decision-making within the Elementary division.
- Advocates for equity, inclusion and belonging amongst all students.
- Builds and promotes trust, understanding and partnership with faculty and staff.
- Provides ongoing and effective communication with the school community.
- Identifies, facilitates and encourages professional development for staff in order to improve the academic success and social-emotional wellbeing of students.
- Supports and enhances opportunities for parent partnership, education and engagement.
- Participates in the implementation of initiatives to enhance student learning and wellbeing.
- Develops an understanding of the Montessori, IB and Ontario curricula in order to support the academic journey for all students in Elementary.
- Collaborates with teachers and parents to support individual student needs.
- Promotes and builds trust, understanding and partnership with parents.
- Assists students with developing academic goals and social-emotional skills.
- Encourages students to develop positive decision-making skills, confidence, independence, curiosity and a love for learning.
# 2 – Responsibilities – Organization
- Coordinates the Elementary School Calendar and promotes its use.
- Coordinates and supports classroom and specialist timetable development and maintenance.
- Coordinates the preparation and updating of the school’s records of student achievements.
- Supports communication between school and home.
- Maintains accurate and confidential records of student interactions, progress and wellbeing.
- Coordinates and supports student transitions (e.g. new students, between Elementary divisions, and transitions to the Upper School).
# 3 – Responsibilities – Marketing
- Contributes to marketing the Montessori and IB programs, within and outside the school.

Education/Experience/Qualifications
- Ontario College of Teachers Certification and/or Montessori Elementary Diploma.
- Master’s in Educational Leadership or equivalent an asset.
- Completion of CAIS Leadership and/or PQPs is considered an asset.
- Extensive skills in strategic thinking and communication with broad experience teaching and leading elementary students in independent schools. Experience in a Montessori and/or IB Lower School is an asset.
- Initiative in abundance, demonstrated ability to explore innovative ideas and solutions, and capacity to work independently.
- Superior competencies in relationship building, leadership, and planning.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience as an educator in senior administration.
- A satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Check.
- A satisfactory current Child Welfare Record Check from CAS.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certificate.
Salary Range: $120,000 – $130,000 annually
