Chamelea Science Center Explores Dinosaurs with Children’s House Students

Field trips and in-house visits are invaluable educational tools for the young children. On Wednesday, November 27th and Thursday, November 28th, the Children’s House 2 and 3 students had a lovely visit from Chamelea Science Center. The Chamelea Science Center was founded with a goal to inspire young minds using science, art and fun. The founder, Dr. Alina S. Kotler, had that in mind when she sought to create an innovative learning experience.

The students experienced the, “Why Are Dinosaurs Extinct?” workshop. In this fantastic show children explored the reasons why dinosaurs no longer walk among us. They erupted volcanoes, explored the ice ages and even held dinosaur eggs. This show intrigued our students’ minds. The Children’s House 1 students will have to wait just a little while longer to explore such a wonderful program as they are set to have a visit from Chamelea Science Centre in January 2025.

The Montessori philosophy encompasses five areas of the curriculum (Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language and Culture). Science curriculum falls within the Culture area. Science inspires young learners’ curiosity and fosters a love for learning. These experiences enrich learning by providing hands-on, real-world exposure that complement classroom instruction. They enhance experiential learning and make learning more meaningful. Montessori science education transforms the learning landscape into an immersive journey.

Children at this age are naturally curious and learn best through hands-on interaction. Observing and exploring encourages children to ask questions and seek answers, fostering problem-solving and critical thinking skills. It is where education goes beyond books, fostering a lasting bond between young learners and the vast universe of science.
